With the adidas 24 hour Thunder Run taking place this weekend, we catch up with the male half of our Men’s and Women’s team.
Not sure what the Thunder Run is? It’s a 24 hour off-road relay race against the clock which can be run solo, in pairs or in teams of five or eight. It tests, tactics, endurance and mental willpower. Easy task then?
Here’s what the male team had to say…
Gary Dalton (Team Captain)
I’m hoping to survive. Coming back from major injury is always a worrying time, particularly when you’re so close to another major race. So this weekend for me will be purely social, getting to know people, having a laugh and a few very careful laps of the circuit.

I’m feeling excited, a little apprehensive, but still, I can’t wait for the event! It’s my debut at the Thunder Run, and more than anything, I’m not really looking forward to putting up my Tent! A few club-mates ran it last year and came second, so I know what I have to do! As a result, I have volunteered to run the first leg, I’d love nothing more than to kick off the proceedings. In terms of running in the dark it will be a bit spooky and I’m not sure how refuelling/resting will work, but I’m sure we’ll all be fine!
All that’s left to worry about now is fitting my tent, kit etc all in my car (a Ford KA!). Otherwise, bring it on, good luck everyone and see you Saturday!
Daniel Stinton
It was fantastic news to hear I’d been picked for TR24, instead of a usual Saturday night pub session I’ll be traipsing through the woods with a head-torch on. There’s a lot of experience in the team so as a comparatively new runner I only have my stubbornness and determination to get me through. Bring it on!

I am looking forward to the weekend as my running mojo has disappeared, having done the event for the past 2 years I know that the atmosphere will have a positive effect on me.  Meeting my team mates and hearing their running stories will be a highlight for me. No tent for me this year, I will be sleeping in the car, well when I say sleeping…!!!
My running club, Black Pear Joggers, have 3 teams taking part, this is evidence that Thunder Run has become a must do event for so many people. I am thankful to the magazine for giving me this opportunity. One word sums up the event……camaraderie.
