Trying to find the perfect outfit for a Friday night out isn’t easy, especially when you know that it could easily become a Saturday all-day session too!

That’s why at Men’s Running we have teamed up with Robbie Britton, who is out in Chamonix training for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, testing out some kit out on the Alpine trails. Plus, Robbie wanted a bunch of free stuff to run in. We’ll make sure he works hard for it, though!

Over the next few weeks, Robbie will be testing shoes, shorts, tops, packs, sunglasses and headtorches to decide his own kit for race day at the end of August, so each week there will be a separate review on what works and what doesn’t, with some tips for running one of Europe’s premier 100-mile events thrown in there too.

Last year, Robbie ran the race as an inov-8 athlete, with the X-Talon 212s on his feet and the inov-8 race vest on his back. So he has a base understanding of what is required to get from Chamonix, into Italy, through Switzerland and back to Chamonix, over 105 miles (168km) and 30,000 ft (10,000m) of up and downhill.

We’d like to know what you guys think is the best bit of kit you have for a race like UTMB and whether Robbie should be testing it to perhaps use on the day – be it Salomon, Adidas, Montane, Hoka One One, Asics, Ultimate Direction or La Sportiva.

If you’re getting ready for UTMB, CCC, TDS or any other mountainous or 100-mile events this summer or autumn, then tweet us @MensRunningUK and @Ultrabritton with your suggestions and we can give them a battering on the trails, so you don’t have to worry if the shoes will still be together at mile 60 or the head torch will last the night.
