Good week
Adam Gemili. The English sprinter (below) won Commonwealth 100m silver after finishing second to Jamaica’s Kemar Bailey-Cole. The 20-year-old’s decision to walk away from the riches of football doesn’t seem too daft now, does it?
Bad week
Jack Stein. The Australian (below) false started twice in the Commonwealth decathlon 100m, thus disqualifying him from the discipline. His moody and stroppy response afterwards hardly left the Glaswegian crowd feeling too sympathetic, either.
Stat of the week
12.20. The time it took Scotland’s Libby Clegg to run 100m in at the Commonwealth Games T11/12 event. Her season’s best time earned her and her country their first Gold at Glasgow 2014.
Twitter rant
Gary Lineker
“@GaryLineker: Why the obsession with crowd shots these days? Win big race, score, agonising defeat..cut to crowd and miss athlete’s reaction of joy/dispair!”
The BBC presenter and former footballer takes aim at TV’s coverage of sport (well, lack of it) while serving studio time at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games.
