What?
Regarded as the world’s most romantic marathon, the Marathon du Medoc is a gorgeous 26-mile race passing through North Bordeaux’s finest vineyards whilst guzzling wine en route.
When?

Where?
The race starts and finishes in the centre of Pauillac, France. Competitors run past 59 of France’s outstanding vineyards, with wine served at every mile.
Why?
Why wouldn’t you? There’s nothing else like it. As well as all the wine sampling, competitors are encouraged to wear fancy dress as they run through chateaux courtyards while 25 musical groups entertain you along your way. Don’t worry if all that alcohol makes you peckish – come 23 miles, white wine oysters are served!
How much?
Race entry: £65. Return flight from London Heathrow to Bordeaux, France: £280. Two nights in a hotel: £255. Post-race beverage: £4. Total cost: £604.
How tough?
Any marathon is exhausting, but to run one under the influence of alcohol is certainly a little tougher. Competitors must be over the age of 21 to take part and finish within the six and a half hour cut-off time. With temperatures ranging from 15 to 29 degrees in France, runners are strongly advised to drink water as well as wine at the numerous checkpoints. Celebrating its 30th anniversary next month, there’s no better time to tick it off your bucket list.
