MR’s Jimmy Norval takes a sideways look at the world of running
Good Week:
Kenya wrapped up a Chicago Marathon double yesterday as Eliud Kipchoge and Rita Jeptoo won the men and women’s event respectively. Kipchoge recorded a time of 2:04:11 and Jeptoo – the defending champion – crossed the finish line in 2:24:35.
Bad Week:
In an unbelievable climax to the Berlin 10K, where a photo finish was needed to separate first from second, there was heartbreak for Emily Chebet of Kenya who lost out by a nose-width to compatriot Joyce Chepkirui. Both athletes were given the time of 31:02 but super-imposed cameras revealed that Chebet had missed out by millimetres.
Stat of the Week:
£2.27 million – this how much profit Mo Farah’s company (Mo Farah Limited) made in 2013, according to the Mail Online.
Statement of the week
Germany’s Olympic, world and European discus champion Robert Harting, asks his name to be removed from the IAAF Athlete of the Year list in protest at the inclusion of twice-banned sprinter Justin Gatlin.
