Garmin Forerunner 630 – RRP £329.99

image009This is, without a doubt, Garmin’s marquee running watch. It has a display that is not only touch screen, but high-resolution too. Garmin has also seemingly crammed in as many features as possible. These include ground contact time, stride length, vertical ratio, featured stress core, performance condition and different watch faces. All this, and the ability to read your lactate threshold. Some of these features, however, do depend on the model you choose, so just make sure you check before buying.

Stripping back the features slightly (no touch or his-res screen), the Foreunner 235 is a little less dazzling than the 630. It does, however, include a heart-rate monitor, which some models of the 630 do not include. As well as this, it can measure your distance, pace, time and more.

This watch is essentially the 235, but without the in-built heart rate monitor. If you’re looking for a Garmin that can track you using GPS with none of the added detail, this is your baby. It does have the ability to read your heart rate, but only when paired up with a chest strap.
