More than 1000 runners have fallen ill with vomiting and diarrhoea in a French mud run after animal faeces was suspected to have been found in the mud.

9 News yesterday broke the news due to a surge of complaints from runners, and were promised by event organisers they would find out what ‘caused’ the upset stomachs. However, it is thought animal manure had been mixed in with the mud.

The event, known as The Mud Day, took place on 20 June and initially received 30 complaints, but in the following days gathered another 1000 from angry runners.

The news comes off the back of the event having record-breaking entries this year, with 8000 people taking part.

The PACA (a regional health agency) are reportedly investigating what has caused the mystery outbreak and will give an official answer.
