Home Straight is a charity supporting those who have been made homeless, marginalised, or suffer/have suffered from substance misuse addictions. It does this by “engaging them in a running community to build confidence, strength and self-esteem”.

The club is solely run by its members with volunteers helping, and people are often referred by Turning Point and other hostels.

The club meets several times a week in the parks of central London for free training sessions, which focus on running drills, running technique and endurance. As stated on the charity’s page, “The goal is primarily to get members fit for races and events, but fundamentally Home Straight offers much more than that. It is a source of supportive camaraderie which gives members a new focus through the discipline of physical training.”

The interview below, conducted by Oh Deary Me‘s Becki Burrows follows the story of Jack, a former Heroin addict.
