According to reports in Variety, Matthew McConaughey will be starring in a movie adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen.

The reports go on to say that screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan, best known for World War Z, State of Play and The Kingdom, is penning the script along with Mickey Liddell, Deb Newmyer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing.

Born To Run is a book based on Christopher McDougall’s journey to the Mexican Copper Canyons where he tracks down a reclusive Tarahumara Indian tribe. Here he marvels the tribe’s ability to run hundreds of miles without seemingly getting injured, whilst battling his own injury demons himself.

In a bid to spread the word, this led to one of the greatest races the world never saw, between the USA’s finest ultra runners and the tribes people themselves. The book has sold more than three million copies worldwide.

McConaughey has had somewhat of a revitalised career of late, having landed major roles in Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, in a bid to wash away the ‘rom com’ status which initiated his breakthrough. Could Born To Run be another accolade on his dazzling CV?
