01 Grim Blackout – Farnborough
1 November 2014
To kick off your November in style, why not trek through 7 miles of thick mud and waist-high water in pitch-black darkness? The route contains 2 x 3.5 mile loops that will feel very arduous whilst tackling the elements, but that doesn’t take anything away from the enjoyment factor. Oh, and remember to bring a head torch.
02 Grim Original – Aldershot
6 and 7 December 2014
If you loved the Grim Blackout then you’ll be sure to hold the Grim Original in the same regard. It will be the same mud bath and soaking as its predecessor but at 8 miles it’s a mile longer. The bonus is that you will be able to see properly this time.
03 Studland Stampede – Dorset, Studland
12 October 2014
Enjoy the sensational scenery and blistful beaches of this unmissable 12-kilometre (7-mile) run. Don’t be fooled by the beautiful Dorset coastline though as the race ends with a tough few sandy miles. It’s an enjoyable race, but does require an element of grit and determination.
04 The Gut Buster – Berkshire
28 December 2014
This vastly popular event is ideal for getting back into the swing of things after the indulgence of Christmas. Through the fresh countryside air of the royal county of Berkshire, expect a wide range of terrain from wet mud to country roads. There is even a choice between running 10K or 10 miles and mince pies and mulled wine wait at the finish line.
05 Oh My Obelisk – Dawlish
11 January 2015
Named after the Obelisk monument in Haldon Forest, this all terrain, 11-mile race through forestry and countryside will test your endurance levels. It’s also very hilly in parts so this is not a run for the faint hearted. But the more challenging a run, the more rewarding it is to finish and that’s worth bearing in mind.
06 Bath Skyline – Bath
18 January 2015 and 15 February 2015
With four events in the offering including a 10K relay and two fun runs – a 5K and 300 metre – there is a lot to choose from. We’re interested in another Skyline event, the 10K run, that sounds modest but it’s very hilly. The University of Bath’s Sports Training Village, which is the training base of the British Paralympic team, plays host.
07 Men’s Health: Survival of the Fittest – Various Locations
11 and 19 October 2014, 8 and 22 November
Men’s Health has organised a series of gruelling assault courses that are all least 10 kilometres in distance all over the United Kingdom. The next four are in Nottingham, Edinburgh, Manchester and finally London. They’re very tough; expect a swim and a rigorous climb.
08 Leeds 10K Christmas Challenge – Leeds
30 November 2014
You’ll be pushed to find a more varied, multi terrain off-road course than this. From flat, springy tracks to “Scrooge Hill” and woodland paths, this is the perfect way to prepare yourself for the approaching Christmas festivities. This is a multi-lap course that enables runners to keep track of how they’re doing.
09 MudMan Trail Run – Camberley, Surrey
7 March 2015
With the course being situated on an Army military training ground, expect this 10k or 15k route (depending on your personal preference) to be stony and muddy underfoot. The hills will be steep and competition will be fierce so don’t turn up expecting a nice jolly around Buckinghamshire.
10 Cancer Research UK Winter Run – London
1 February 2015
In an effort to keep people running through winter, Cancer Research UK are putting together a 10K run that will pass through some of London’s iconic landmarks such as The London Eye, Big Ben and Tower of London. Areas of snow, being named as ‘Snow-Zones’, are to be anticipated along the route but that shouldn’t trouble you too much.
