It’s been five years since adidas Running released their first shoe featuring Boost technology – I know, five whole years – and they’ve now decided to honour that game-changing moment.

The brand has revealed three throwback shoes; the updated and re-released Energy BOOST, Energy BOOST OG and UltraBOOST in the original black and yellow colour scheme.

This anniversary pack will no doubt excite the loyal adidas fans out there, and it’s fair to see why given the success that BOOST technology has enjoyed across running since its birth.

BOOST is adidas’ lightweight cushioning technology, and is made up of a number of tiny little balls that combine to form a foam that creates an impressive amount of energy return.

Five years of BOOST

The technology was first released in a shoe offering complete heel-to-toe BOOST foam, but the brand has since updated a number of its shoes to feature the foam in different ways.

Over the years, two marathon world records have been broken by athletes Mary Keitany and Dennis Kimetto who were both wearing shoes incorporating BOOST technology.

The main features of the original Energy BOOST remain largely the same, but a number of updates have improved the popular trainer to keep it a performance focused shoe.

The new Torsion System helps with midfoot support, the enhanced Techfit upper has improved the fit, improvements to the Stetchweb increases grip and 85% more BOOST means there is more of that much-loved responsiveness.

Matthias Amm, of adidas Running, said: “In 2013, we started a revolution with the release of the Energy BOOST and changed the face of running forever, one silhouette at a time.

Changed the face of running

“From then until now, our game-changing technology has provided runners across the globe with a high level of energy return, for exceptional performance in almost any condition.

“In the future, BOOST™ will continue to define our products as we endeavour to combine our most famed, performance-enhancing technology with further advances in innovation, aesthetics and design.

“We are already looking forward to a re-release of one of our most glorified silhouettes early in 2019.”
