Now in its 33rd consecutive year, the Great Cumbrian Run is the longest running half marathon in Cumbria and, with over 2,000 runners expected on the day, now is the time to take part in an iconic northern race.
This year the half marathon will start from the iconic Carlisle Castle, heading past Carlisle Cathedral and through the city centre before heading out into the countryside and through the picturesque villages of Cumwhinton, Wetheral and Scotby. On their return into the city, runners will come through Bitts Park ready for the grand finish on the running track at The Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
Now established as a nationally recognised running event, both runners and supporters come out in their droves to take part in the Great Cumbrian Run. With an undulating route, this is a challenge for even the most experienced road runners but, with the public’s support on the day, everyone is sure to finish with a great time, and all entrants receive an exclusive Great Cumbrian Run 2015 T-shirt and medal.
Preceding the half marathon is our Family Fun Run which begins at 9am at The Sheepmount. It isn’t about Olympic level athletes aiming for a record time. it’s about mums with toddlers, dads with prams, groups running together, fancy dress, kids getting active but, most importantly, raising money for a well-deserved charity of your choice. No times, no pressure, no sweat – just some easy moves and lots of laughs. The run is suitable for all the family.
