On 14 June 2015, runners and walkers from around the world will tour the streets of Liverpool for the second annual Rock ’n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon and Half Marathon.
The race will start and finish along the waterfront at Albert Dock. Live music along the courses, coupled with a free Finish Line Concert and Beer Garden, provide a spirited venue where runners, friends, family and members of the public can celebrate. Runners will enjoy scenic views of the historic city, with its rich architecture, spectacular museums and vibrant commercial districts, including the celebrated Cavern Quarter, where The Beatles rose to prominence in the 1960s.
The marathon course runs alongside the famous Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs, along with the city’s beautiful parks, including Stanley Park, Sefton Park and Otterspool Park. All finishers are treated to a seriously massive medal, technical tee, tasty refreshments and a fabulous finish festival.
In 2014, famed rugby player Austin Healey started the race and greeted runners into the finish, while Liverpool City Council Chief Executive Ged Fitzgerald participated in the half marathon in full Elvis attire. In addition to local figures, the race partnered with several official charities, including Cancer Research UK, which will return in 2015.
Rock ’n’ Roll Liverpool is part of an international series of entertainment-themed marathons and half-marathons that revolutionised the running industry in 1998, by infusing endurance running with live bands, cheer teams and themed water stations. There are currently 28 Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon destinations worldwide, including the European capital cities of Madrid, Dublin and Lisbon. The Series’ jewel in the crown is Rock ’n’ Roll Las Vegas, which is run on the illustrious strip at night.
