Malta hosts a number of exhilarating marathons which offer an ideal combination of climate conditions with scenic, challenging routes for all runners. The routes are especially designed to make each leg of the journey a memorable one – the size of Malta enables participants to run alongside stunning cliffs, under ancient bastion walls, through quaint villages, along beautiful coast roads, into majestic harbour towns and vibrant, contemporary urban landscapes.
The Malta International Challenge Marathon from 20th – 22nd November 2015 is an exciting three-day event taking runners through the varied landscapes that Malta has to offer. The 42.195km course is split into three stages around different areas on the Islands- from the old capital of Mdina and historical Rabat, to the beautiful viewpoints at Dingli Cliffs, coastal villages of Birzebbuga in the South and St. Paul’s Bay in the North, cosmopolitan St Julian’s and Sliema, and finally finishing in the Baroque capital city of Valletta.
Another marathon of interest is the Express Trailers Zurrieq Half Marathon and 10k Race taking place on Sunday 8th November 2015. The topographical features surrounding Zurrieq means that this relatively short run is ideal for strong runners seeking a stimulating marathon set amidst traditional villages in the southern part of Malta.
The Vodafone Malta Marathon held in February 2016 is an established annual event in the Maltese sports calendar, proving a popular international sporting event. Both the full marathon and the half marathon commence outside the bastions of the stunning citadel of Mdina and end in the vibrant seaside town of Sliema.
Malta’s annual competitive races offer runners invigorating weather, stunning topography, dynamic routes and varied distances to suit all levels of abilities.
