2014 TCS New York City Marathon

In early November Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany won the 44th New York City Marathon. They clocked times’ of 2:10:59 and 2:25:07 respectively, both wearing Adidas’ Adios BOOST 2.0 shoes. Has Adidas simply got a monopoly on the world’s best distance runners? Or are these shoes a secret weapon in the world of running?

It was the 21st and 22nd major victories for athletes running in these trainers. For Kipsang it was his eight win of the season. A season that has also seen him triumph at the London Marathon. Dennis Kimetto was wearing a pair of BOOST’s when he crossed the line in Berlin in September, setting a 2:2:57 World Record for the marathon.

Lets take a closer look at this super shoe. It’s 228g (size 8.5) which is not the lightest on the market, but it saves wear and tear on your legs thanks to the feather-light cushioning of the sole. BOOST’s also feature a ‘Coolever’ mesh upper that keeps feet ultra cool. There’s a torsion system delivering energy return in the forefoot and natural integrity in the midfoot – every step is charged with an endless supply of light, fast energy.

Adidas have also ticked the environmentally responsible box by using solvent-free synthetic Tirrenina suede overlays. The Adios BOOST is a supremely comfortable shoe. You get great step-in comfort, flexibility and ultimate grip and push-off during wet runs. They’re not flimsy though, don’t be afraid to get them muddy on grass and towpaths – they’re extremely durable and high wearing. People complained that earlier versions wore out too quickly. Adidas listened and have created a pair perfectly balance between stiffness, cushioning and durability. The proof is in the race results.
