The popular Hastings Half Marathon enters its 32nd year on Sunday 20th March 2016.
Although reckoned to be a tough event, it has produced very fast times and some PBs over the years. In 1988 Paul Davies Hale ran a time of 62.10, which was the fastest in the world for that year, and in 1999 Samuel Otieno (from Kenya) ran a time of 61.37 to win a bonus of £10,000.
Unbelievably, Derek Stevens in 1986 finished in a time of 1.06.6, wearing race number 1066!
This year, event organisers are celebrating the 950th Anniversary of The Battle of Hastings in 1066, by asking entrants to dress in Norman and Saxon costumes.
There will be lots of entertainment and spectator support on the route and runners can take advantage of the free car parking and park and ride services as well as a special train service from London to get you to the race on time.
As the event usually takes place around one month before the London Marathon, it’s the ideal training race to get you up to speed.
It may not be the fastest half-marathon, but you will see some stunning sea views and historic landmarks as you make your way to the finish line where you can look forward to a hot drink and the unique ‘Hastings Brass’ award.
