New Balance Fresh Foam 980

The lowdown on New Balance's new Fresh Foam 980

New Balance Men's 980 Fresh Foam (white)

It’s not often that a brand brings out a new midsole material – the last we can think of was adidas with Boost. But New Balance has upped the ante with its new Fresh Foam, a midsole created from a single piece of foam and designed to provide a lower, more natural underfoot feel. This is achieved by the hexagonal shapes on the outer wall of the midsole that flex and contract during the run cycle, providing support and flexibility. Clever stuff, and all at 250g in weight. The shoe also has a 4mm heel to forefoot drop for a more natural ride and a breathable synthetic mesh upper to keep your feet cool.
