It seems as though we are actually starting to catch up with all the sci-fi films we watched as a child. Aside from silly and unnecessary inventions like the Wearable Tomato Dispenser, it seems as though real human-like walking, moving and running robots are now a thing. And there’s an Olympics for them too!

Owned by Google, engineering and robotics design company Boston Dynamics have created a robot known as Atlas. Weighing in at 330lb with a height of 6ft 2in, Atlas has been set free of late to run wild in the woods.

Marc Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics said: “Our focus is on balance and dynamics, working in the way animals and people do, moving quickly to avoid falling.”

Which is exactly what the robot has been replicating.

He added: “We’re interested in getting this robot out in the world, its a totally different, you can’t predict what its going to be like.”

Brought together with 28 hydraulically actuated joints and stereo vision, it is without a doubt one of the most advanced robots ever created.

However, this didn’t stop it putting in a below-par performance at the recent robo-olympics!

The firm have conceded there is ‘still some work to be done’.
