Jon Gurney Project Trail

Jon’s looking forward to some structured training

Week one of project trail: having met the Men’s Running team and my fellow “trailers” last week, I already feel inspired, and although there’s still four months until the Wendover Woods 50 I’m excited at the prospect.

New kit always adds to the excitement and my new trail shoes and head-to-toe kit from Columbia Montrail look great. The first week of summer has meant my Adidas sunglasses have gone down a storm and are incredibly light and comfortable. Running with my TomTom Runner 2 Cardio gives excellent insight to the exercise undertaken and the option to listen to music wirelessly from just the watch is brilliant.

I’m waiting to discuss and agree my training schedule with Robbie Britton and I’m really hoping that the increased focus I will get from his input will help achieve the step change in ultrarunning I am looking for.

Overall, week one has been excellent. I feel energised, excited and ready to get going. The team are great and I’m sure that Dan and Nic are going to deliver on race day.

Part of my motivation is already not to be the one to let the side down. I want to enjoy the journey and see where it takes me. November 26 seems a long way away now, but I’m sure it will arrive very quickly. The priority for August is to ensure my holiday doesn’t set my training back, as I need to be ready to run a marathon on 18 September as a key training milestone.
