On a day when Marty McFly bursts into our world disappointed to find a lack of flying cars, hoverboards and dog walking drones, Nike have quite possibly taken apparel to the future.

Their new running top, named AeroReact, reacts and adapts to you.

‘What is this wizardry?’ I hear you ask.

Well, the clever top’s textile – a bi-component yarn – can actually sense moisture vapour from when we heat up and sweat. The thermo-regulative material recognises this, and opens its structure to maximise breathability.

Brian Stewart, Vice President of NXT’s Apparel Innovation team, said: “The apparel industry has always been based on the concept of layering.

“But how can we create apparel that adapts, so that as you change – as you heat up during your run – or as the weather changes around you, you don’t have to make those adjustments?

“Everything we do is focused on how we can help athletes perform better, be more comfortable and stay focused. AeroReact has this ability to adapt as you change and as your environment changes – to help keep you comfortable the whole time you’re wearing it.”

Don’t get Nike wrong: this has taken several years of research, testing and trials. And as a result, it comes in at the steep end of the market at £90.

Men’s Running will be trialling this product next week to give you our verdict. But if you can’t wait until then, you can buy it from Nike here.
