Fitness Festival

On the bank holiday of 29 August the largest family focused fitness festival in the UK is set to take place in Epsom, Surrey. The all-day festival will offer adults and children alike a diverse range of events to take part in, including a 5K and 10K race.

There will also be live music, food and drinks, as well as hundreds of different stalls to create an event in which organisers hope will help inspire local people discover the many benefits that exercise can bring to the whole family.

There will be three ‘colourful’ fun run events taking place throughout the day, with a 5K and 10K route for adults, and a shorter 2.4K for children aged 6 to 15. Runners will be somewhat distracted however, as organisers and spectators will be spraying coloured paint and water at them as they make their way around the course.

There will also be a ‘Superman’ and ‘Superwoman’ competition to find the strongest man and woman at the event, plus a ‘Fitness Challenge’, which will test speed, strength and stamina across a series of mini-challenges. Winners of both competitions will be presented with £500 worth of fitness goodies.

Alongside these events, The Fitness Festival’s main arena will be packed with a wide variety of demos and activities to get involved in; Parkour (free-running), high intensity Insanity classes as well as various games and competitions on the tennis courts.

In addition, there will be a special ‘active area’ with an inflatable obstacle course and rock climbing wall with ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Wipeout’ style games, while not forgetting the temporary beach, complete with volleyball court.

Event organiser and founder of The Fitness Festival, Cara Hernon, said; “We are really excited to be bringing The Fitness Festival to the UK this summer. With all of the entertainment on offer, there will be plenty of fun for the whole family to enjoy.

“The Fitness Festival is first and foremost about making fitness fun, with the hope that this will encourage lots of people to try something new and discover the benefits of healthy living and exercise.

“The concept is new to the UK, however fitness events like this are already quite common in certain parts of Europe. We are hoping to make a real impact to the way people in the UK view fitness and exercise, by designing an event that the whole family can enjoy.”

Ms Hernon added; “I am incredibly passionate about health and fitness. Exercise has had a huge impact on my personal health and wellbeing, and I hope the fitness festival helps to inspire others to take up sport.”

The Fitness Festival will start at 10am and finish at 6pm. Adult entry to the festival costs £5 or £12 for entry and access to the active area. children’s entry to the festival costs £3 or £10 for entry and access to the active area.
