New studies from TomTom have revealed that slow running is just as effective at burning fat as high-intensity training.
Sixty per cent of the nation say they start a new training regime to lose weight, and 13% plan to pull on their trainers and head out for a run to lose the pounds.
Nearly a fifth (18%) of those who had used a heart rate monitor to train stated that it had helped them lose weight, while 57% also believed it had helped them to understand how their body responds to exercise.
“Various studies have found that maintaining a slow and steady pace, and keeping your heart at a target BPM, helps burn fat so it’s worth accurately measuring the intensity of your efforts and matching your training goal to your heart rate zones to optimize your training.”
