Businesses and entrepreneurs are always trying to be innovative, and the sports industry is no different. However, the Miha Bodytec made in Germany is like nothing else I have ever experienced within the fitness world.

Firstly, it looks bizarre. All the strange wires sticking out everywhere attached onto a vest fastened with Velcro make it look slightly dangerous. Being strapped and fastened into an electrical circuit definitely caused the adrenaline to start flowing and I wasn’t given much of a warning about what was coming next.

Attached to the vest was a control panel that can be adjusted to increase the tension on certain muscle groups. Before I tested the product, my instructor told me: “It feels like being electrocuted, very mildly,” He was absolutely right.

Aside from my fears about dying, it was an incredibly effective workout. I was put through a series of exercises such as squatting, boxing and stretching, with electrodes being sent through the suit  doubling the workload. From an onlooker’s perspective, it may look like I’m putting minimal effort in. Really, my body was being put through a punishing regime. The best way I can describe it would be trying to walk in a swimming pool; my movements slowed and it became a very strenuous exercise.

It may all sound very technical and a bit like a science lesson. But with advancing technologies, it’s highly probable that sports conditioning and training will head in this direction in the future.

The Miha Bodytec has captured some very impressive sales figures around Europe but none have yet been sold in the UK. It’s only a matter of time before these products break into this market, though, and it was a (slightly painful) privilege for me to trial this unique piece of training equipment.
