kilkenny xc spikes

Admirer – Martin Morgan, 49

Love interest – Saucony Kilkenny XC3 spikes

Where we met – Online; I prefer to meet face-to-face but that’s not so easy on the high street where retailers shun spikes in favour of bigger earning, glitzy road shoes!

First Impressions – Attractive, slim-fit and super-light!

Best Date – This year’s South of England Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill.  The complex sole and 12mm spikes provided the perfect amount of traction up the famous hill start and the 15K that followed.

Worst Date – We fell out at a 5K cross country league race on Hackney Marshes due to too many tarmac paths and we argued over an area of dry tightly-packed gravel.  I should have given the spikes a rest day in favour of my trail specific, ‘bit on the side!’

Favourite Memory – In at the deep end with entry into the 2012 English Cross Country Championships.  A massive field of club runners racing in a cold but gloriously sunny winter morning at London’s iconic, Parliament Hill cross country course.

Bugbears – They’ve had so many winter soakings that they seem to have shrunk!  Not as think skinned as I first thought; a thorn penetrated the heel mid-race last week so my eyes have started to wander!

Years Together – Five; we’ve finally split up as I’ve run off with my New Balance ‘MXC700s’ to experiment with a 4-spike footplate and my aim of finishing higher up the field!

Why We Worked – A secure grip when the going gets tough. The green matches the Trent Park Running Club vest too and as the stitching on the tongue states; ‘OMG it’s Kilkenny!’
