North Korea have banned foreign runners and athletes from entering the Pyongyang international marathon due to fears of the ebola virus spreading.

Despite being thousands of miles away from the outbreak, the country has kept its borders closed since October 2014.

Young Pioneer Tours has updated its website to state that the North Korean marathon will not take place for tourists this year.

The event has been running annually since 1981, and for the first time last year opened its doors to foreign runners.
