Coffee brand Pact are really making a push and focusing their energy on the benefits of coffee and running.

But what exactly are the benefits of coffee and running?

Well, not only does caffeine release feel-good dopamine to the brain, it helps boost the metabolism and is a proven ergogenic aid.

What all that complicated language means is that it’s great for losing weight and helps enhance high-intensity exercise performance.

You can, therefore, work harder and battle fatigue for longer. In terms of mental performance, antioxidants, which are normally found in fruit, are also present in coffee. These naturally make you feel happier, so having a coffee before a run isn’t a bad idea!

If that wasn’t enough, The Journal of Applied Physiology published a study showing that caffeine can reduce mental and muscular fatigue.Processed with VSCOcam with k3 preset

Chris Spencer, a member of the Advent Running group, said: “Every early group run I’ve been part of this year has a pot brewing beforehand. It seems to be a great way to get the system going.

“With coffee proven to help get you going in the morning, aid your focus levels and recovery, it definitely seems to have its place firmly within my running schedule.”

On speaking to Tony To, Head of Technology at Pact Coffee and keen runner, he said: “We have a lot of customers who take joy in exercise and great coffee. Personally I like to drink coffee before my morning run for that little extra pick me up.

“When it comes to big races I go without coffee for a week or so and then have a big cup on race morning. That way you can feel the caffeine kick more and it definitely boosts my performance in the race.”
